Road and Weather Update
July 04 2008
The holiday season is well and truly here, and just to prove it I'm off on holiday this weekend! Many of you will be doing likewise and may decide to come up to Scotland and try our biking roads. There are numerous roads in Scotland that have been identified as "great biking roads", and there are a number of those in the Borders area. We are halfway through our second year of "around the corner" and it's steadily gathering pace. We've met up with literally hundreds of you in and around the Borders roads. Thankfully so far this year there have been no serious incidents and credit for that has to go down to the way you've all responded to the advice and pointers we've been sharing.
As I've mentioned previously on this page, we're not out to hound you, unless you're completely stupid, we'd much rather have a chat with you, buy you a coffee and sticky bun and let you pick our brains on how to prevent yourselves from taking a tumble. Don't be shy, if you've got something to ask us we're willing to share it free of charge - you might even get one of the sought after freebies we're handing out. We're happy to discuss anything at all to do with biking, from clothing and helmets right through to how to plan your ride, read the road, plan for overtakes and to get the most enjoyment from your day out.
One of the local events that you'll catch us at is the BMF Show at Kelso on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July 08. This show is the biggest in the area and attracts visitors from all over Scotland and the north of England. We'll be there along with our colleagues from Durham and Northumbria to give you the benefit of our knowledge and experience. Come and visit the stand, you might just pick up a gem of advice or possibly even a free side stand puck.
Unfortunately one of the events I will miss is the Durham Bikewise show on Sunday 27 July at Durham Police HQ. One of the highlights of the year! There will be two Edinburgh police bikers at the show lending a hand to the Durham guys, so if you happen to bump into them don't be shy, introduce yourself.
I'll not be able to update this page whilst on holiday, so I'll speak again in a few weeks when hopefully I'll be able to continue the good news of incident free weekends. Remember - have fun out there on two wheels, watch out for others in your group and always think what might be "around the corner". Cheers!!
Thanks to those of you so far who have registered on the mailing list and to those of you who have completed the survey - your comments will be made use of.
