Better Weather - Great Roads
Once more the weekend is upon us and we look to the skies in anticipation of a dry weekend. This weekend the forecast good, dry and sunny for the Borders area. It's rained on the first few weekends so far, but we've met up with a few of you like-minded bikers on the Borders roads. A bonus if the sun is out, it adds a completely different character to the scenery, especially along the valleys. If you've never ridden the Borders roads, this weekend might just be the time to do it. The roads have been voted some of the best biking and most scenic roads in the UK.
We've been running our "around the corner" initiative over the last four years and it's been a great success. We've met hundreds of you, either at the roadside or at one of our events. This weekend sees us visiting our regular stops on the A68, A708 and A7, Why not stop, have a chat and grab a free set of ear-plugs, a side-stand puck or some free pointers on how to be a better biker. Don't be shy, we're happy to discuss anything at all to do with biking, from clothing and helmets right through to how to plan your ride, read the road, plan for overtakes and how to get the most enjoyment from your day out. Ok, I accept there has to be a safety message that we put over, but so much of what we have to offer, as police motorcyclists, is how you can become a better rider. By becoming a better rider you increase the enjoyment out of your time in the saddle - and with the changeable weather we're getting, time in the saddle (enjoyment time) is limited. We all want to make the most out of our ride out.
In closing a word of encouragement for Stuart Easton who did well, despite an injured leg, in the BSB opening round at Brands Hatch last weekend. He led the first race for a while before getting caught up in back markers and eventually finished a decent six and fifth in the races.
The good news is that there are no major roadworks planned along our routes this weekend, that doesn't mean that some won't spring up and there's likely to be some movement of timber lorries along some of the Borders roads, so remember - WHAT MIGHT BE "AROUND THE CORNER" - and if you're out in a group of mates look out for each other and take it easy.
