Charity raffle - prize winners announced
March 25 2010
DCC Steve Allen making the prize draw.
For those who don't know we ran a charity raffle at the Scottish Motorcycle Show at the weekend. All proceeds will be going to the head injuries unit at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. The generosity shown by all of you who bought a raffle ticket was tremendous, I was overwhelmed by the kindness shown and the willingness to donate to such a good cause. I'm pleased to announce that you raised £750 for the unit and a cheque will be handed over to them soon. The prize draw was made yesterday by Deputy Chief Constable Steve Allen and the winners are:-
SMUG JACKET - Yellow 334, Alex Mitchell
RST JACKET - White 181, Robin Yuill
RST HELMET - White 309, Alexis Taylor
G-MAG HELMET - Green 42, Katrina Andrew
SUPERBIKE TICKETS - White 109, Sandy Smith
£250 VOUCHER - Yellow 313, Jay Robertson
Congratulations to you all! I've spoken with all the winners and the goodies are on the way to them, just in time for the start of the new season.
This brings me nicely to the start of the new Around The Corner season which begins today. It's our award winning interaction and engagement campaign with bikers who use the roads in the Scottish Borders. We're out there amongst you, not to give you a hard time but to make sure you ride sensibly and think about how you ride. Make no mistake, if you ride stupidly then you can expect to get a ticket, however you can still have great fun on two wheels without having your day spoiled. The Borders roads are some of the best in the UK and are populated by biker friendly premises giving you a warm welcome. We'll be out there happy to give out advice and tips for free. Police bikers are put through many training courses and have vast experience of riding on different roads in all weathers. Pick our brains, ask about observations, planning, safe overtaking and anticipation, we’ll gladly talk about all these things and more with you to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable day. You'll be surprised that even the smallest piece of advice, if practised often enough, can enhance your riding ability. It's not all about who is quickest from A to B, it's about being a better rider, becoming more skilful, getting more fun from your machine and enjoying your day out. If you see us, don't be shy come and speak with us, we've loads of freebies to hand out and if you're lucky we might even buy you a coffee.
