GLOBAL WARMING – THAT MICRO CLIMATE KNOWN AS KNOCKHILL
BMF Show, Kelso
Following our successful outing at the Highland Show, the Around the Corner Road Show made its way to a very sunny Knockhill for the 6th round of the British Superbikes. In a balmy 70 plus degrees we set up on the Friday in anticipation for the tropical days ahead. We weren’t disappointed!
Saturday practice saw fantastic weather with those attending looking for high action and high sun factor protection. It was great to speak to those visiting our stand at the hairpin. Our new liveried flags seamed to get some recognition from those of you who are regulars to this site or who are out and about regularly in the Scottish Borders. Our fully operational and marked up Midi Moto is not as rumour would have, intended to train the ‘younger’ police bikers – it’s just for a bit of fun. To the twenty or so who made offers for it – We’ll get back to you! Our range of key rings, maps and earplugs went down a bundle and we even rewarded a few with some nice buffs to keep off the sun.
Sunday was, as the say, another day! We arrived early to a deluge of rain; this softened to incessant showers and was then interspersed by monsoon conditions. At one point with the wind and horizontal rain I thought we were pushing the campaign in the tropics not Scotland. Never a truer work is said about Scottish weather than getting four seasons in one day – this was just extended over a weekend. Our sympathies went out to the organisers and the racers.
For those amongst you who have been out and about around Scotland this year you may have noticed Police Bikers in other areas stopping and speaking to you at your usual haunts. They too have adopted our campaign and are giving out maps and freebies specific to their area. The campaign is progressing towards our first National Bike Initiative to assist and advice bikers all over Scotland.
To this end we invited Bikers from the West of Scotland and the Central area along on Sunday complete with their new shiny Kawasaki’s and BM’s. Whilst we were up for a great day to a great extent the weather put a dampener on the show – literally! A big thanks to all of you who did come over and speak to us and hopefully you’ll now be enjoying the maps and other freebies. The buffs thankfully double up as rain protection as well. Thanks as well to the IAM guys who were on hand both days to advice.
Stuart Easton and Swan Honda had a real mixed weekend being great in the practice but seemed to suffer in the wet condition set up. Stuart is determined to get himself into the top six shoot out and is looking forward to the next few meeting to improve his position. He’s been following the website and certainly noticing the increased numbers of bikers out and about in his native Scottish Borders. He wishes you all the best for your biking season and reminder to always think about what may be AROUND THE CORNER.
This weekend sees us heading south to the Kelso Bikefest so hopefully we’ll see you there. The weather looks a bit better after Friday so here’s hoping. Stay Safe.
