If you’re coming to the Scottish Motorcycle Show

March 12 2009

This weekend coming is the Scottish Motorcycle Show at Ingliston, the first bike show of the calendar year.  However, being held in March means that we're not always guaranteed the best of weather, with Saturday's weather forecast for light rain. Sunday is slightly better, being only overcast, so please if you're coming on two wheels, wrap up against the wind and water.

If you're travelling to the bikeshow on the A68 or A7, watch out for large patches of mud on the roads, particularly mid-corner. Ploughing of fields has started in the Borders and there are tractors a plenty out and about, so bear it in mind. I don't think ploughing is only taking place in the Borders, it's likely to be Scotland wide, so wherever you're travelling from, especially on two wheels - watch out for what's aroundthecorner.........sorry, had to get that in.  When you arrive safely at Ingliston come and see us on the Bikesafe Scotland stand. We're situated near to the Knockhill stand where, at 11 o'clock, our prize-winners from 2008 will be presented with their prizes by Hydrex Honda Superbike rider Stuart Easton.  We've got a load of free stuff to hand out and some great start of season advice.

The 2009 Scottish Motorcycle Show will take place at Ingliston Showground near Edinburgh on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 March. Along with the many great exhibitors will be our Bikesafe stand which incorporates the successful Around The Corner campaign. For those of you who don't know what we're about, we're there to interact with bikers who intend having a ride-out in the Scottish Borders. The Borders roads were recently voted in the Top 10 biking roads in the UK by readers of MCN.

This will be our third year involved with bikers and we're getting better every year. 2008 saw over 500 people reply to our survey, whether on-line or by completing the form handed out at the various events and venues. The Bikeshow in March sees the prizes winners being invited to the Show as our guests to receive their fantastic prizes.

Following the Bikeshow police bikers will be out and about from the middle of March on the Borders roads to engage with you and to share their knowledge and experience. There will be a road safety message of course, that's also part of what we do, but in the main we're there to help you get the most enjoyment from your bike on your day out. We all like to think we're above average riders, but there's always something new to learn. Speak to us and we'll help you hone your riding skills. We'll speak to you about observations, overtaking safely, cornering techniques and how to read the road and plan.  These are some of the most important skills to learn and improve on as a biker. If you take on board the free advice we've got offer, you'll be surprised how much more enjoyment you get out of the ride, how easy it is to practise and how much more relaxed you become on the bike without losing concentration.

The weekend after the Bikeshow we'll be down at BCG bikes in Galashiels for our press launch. BCG Bikes hosted the event last year and it was a big hit despite the weather. A great number of you braved the cold in late March to come along and I hope you do the same this year.

Enough of my waffle, hope to see you all at the Bikeshow in March. In the meantime if the bike's tucked up for the winter, now is the time to give it the once over and attend to the essential maintenance before the start of the biking season.   Cheers.
