Road and Weather Update
September 05 2008
Hello again! Sorry I missed the update last week but events overtook me. Once more we're getting ready to head off into the Borders roads, some of the best biking and most scenic roads in the whole of the UK. If you're looking for a ride-out this weekend then come along and join us, although bring your waterproofs, the forecast is not brilliant, with rain predicted on Saturday and heavy showers on Sunday.
We'll be out and about on the usual routes on Friday and Saturday and in addition, on Sunday, we'll be running along with the annual Steve Hislop (Hizzy) memorial run. If you've just heard about the run on Sunday I'll quickly pass on some details taken from Alan Duffus's information sheet.
For those of you wanting to join in who come from the west, there are two pick-up points:- 1) The east side of the Erskine Bridge at 10am and 2) Bothwell Services on the M74 at 1040am.
For those wishing to join the Run from the north and east there are a number of pick-up points:-
Depart south side of the Tay Bridge at 8.15am. Depart Alan Duffus motorcycles at Kirkcaldy at 9.30am. Depart from the south side of the Forth Road Bridge at 10.15am. Passing through the A702 at Hillend at 10.35am and then onto Biggar for 11.00am.
Both groups will join up at Abington Services on the A74(M) at 11.15am for food and fuel then depart at 12.15am. The route thereafter will be up the A702 to join the A72 heading for Peebles, then taking the A707 for Selkirk, then the A7 to Hawick, arriving via the High Street at Wilton Lodge park at 2.00pm. At 2.30pm there will be the official opening of the new Hizzy room at Hawick museum.
Despite being a busy weekend we'll be on hand to offer free advice on how to be a better biker. From on-road tips on positioning, cornering and overtaking to mention only three, to how to prepare for a run, or riding in groups, we'll be happy to answer any questions. We'll be in possession of our usual freebies, earplugs, route maps and side-stand pucks so come along, join in and have a great weekend. We'd normally buy teas and coffees for those we meet, but with 700+ bikers expected on the Hizzy Run, you'll have to forego that pleasure this weekend - sorry! Cheers - see you on Sunday, take care!
Thanks to those of you so far who have registered on the mailing list and to those of you who have completed the survey - your comments will be made use of.
